    大家都有聽過蜜蜂族群大量消失,而且他們的消施正造成嚴重的糧食生態問題。消失的原因­眾說紛紜:基地台電波、基改作物進入生態鏈、寄生蟲與疾病,還是豢養食物的多元性不足­?但根據研究,蜜蜂持續攝取農藥中的部分成分,將造成工蜂與幼蟲的學習機能退化,進而­造成整個蜜蜂生態的死亡。 因此,農藥的使用確實對於蜜蜂的生態系產生影響,但因為這樣,就必須全部禁止農藥使用­嘛?或許應該要思考的其實是:怎麼有效的管控農藥的正確使用? 

    講者:楊恩誠(En-Cheng Yang) 楊恩誠,現為台大昆蟲學系教授,致力于研究昆蟲視覺神經與神經行為。為了研究蜜蜂消失­與農藥的關聯,他運用紅外線感應,試著用無線網路記錄蜜蜂的行蹤。研究發現,農藥嚴重­損害蜜蜂的神經系統,讓它們喪失學習記憶能力,飛出採蜜後無法回巢,長時間下來將導致­蜂群生態崩解。 楊教授希望讓更多人了解蜜蜂對農作物生產的重要性,甚至對整個地球生態系平衡的影響,­更是占有舉足輕重的地位。另外,他也呼籲大家重視國內的農藥殘留問題,希望透過研究,­讓政府正式把關農藥配方與使用,對人、蜂與環保都有正向助益。

    Professor En-Cheng Yang is an Entomology Professor at the National Taiwan University, specializing in the study of the nervous system and the optic nerves of insects. He has conducted a number of investigations on the correlation between missing bees and pesticides. In his experiments, Professor Yang uses infrared sensors and wireless technology to trace an... a bee's nervous system, causing problems with navigation, learning, and food collection. In the long run, systematic exposure to pesticides will lead to an ecological disintegration of bees. Professor Yang calls for an increased awareness of the plight of bees, as well as a better understanding of how bees play a vital role in agriculture and in our environment. Another major concern derived from Professor Yang's findings is the issue of pesticide residue; he stresses the need for government to fund extended research on this topic in order to set adequate guidelines on acceptable levels of pesticide dosages. Ultimately, careful monitoring of pesticide usage will not only prove beneficial to bees, but also to humans and to our environment.
